Will CCTV 'fiasco' comments hit security sales?
Close circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been branded an "utter fiasco" by a leading policeman.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Neville's comments will no doubt see efforts from business development managers at security firms to prevent any damage to CCTV sales.
Speaking at the Security Document World Conference in London, Detective Neville claimed that CCTV was not adopted to be used so widely to solve crimes.
He said: "There's no fear of CCTV.
"Why don't people fear it? (They think) the cameras are not working."
Detective Neville also noted that only three per cent of crimes are solved using CCTV and that it had originally only been intended as a preventative measure.
CCTV technology has no doubt been one of the best sellers for security sales jobs employees in the UK, which has the world's highest camera surveillance rate.
The UK has an estimated 4.2 million CCTV cameras in public places.
