IT security purchases 'high priority' for blue chip firms

IT security looks set to become one of the biggest areas for those in IT sales jobs, research has suggested.

According to a survey by Siemon, 97 per cent of major blue chip companies rank security as either of "high or "very high" importance.

Steven Foster, EMEA managing director at Siemon claims that it could be even more important in the financial sector.

He said: "In today's world of mission critical applications and reliance on data, it was little wonder security came out as the number one priority.

"With such a high score across all sectors it's a clear message that for major corporations security is front of mind, followed by legislative compliance and system standardisation."

Meanwhile one expert has suggested that the growth of competition in internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari, has drastically altered the security landscape for security.

F-Secure researcher Sean Sullivan notes in a recent blog posting notes that there are now a host of different security advantages and disadvantages to each browser.
