Manufacturing sales set for 'good year'
Those in manufacturing sales jobs can look forward to a record breaking year in the food retail market, according to Food Manufacturer magazine.
Research by Food from Britain reveals that UK exports performed much better in 2007 than the previous year, growing by 9.1 per cent to £11.45 billion.
It was also the first time in five years that food and drink exports grew ahead of imports.
However, editor of Food Manufacture, Rick Pendrous, suggests that it could still be difficult for those in niche manufacturing sales jobs to do well.
He said: "To survive in this day and age you need to be either a big global player supplying lots of different markets or be a very specialist niche player.
Nonetheless, Mr Pendrous remains confident about the future for manufacturing sales.
"They were talking about [exports] reaching 12.5 billion in 2008, so there certainly is a lot of confidence that it would be sustained," he added.
Poultry meat is currently the UK's largest export sector and is currently valued at £200.4 million.
