Manufacturing plans 'may increase' sales recruiter jobs

Government plans to raise the profile of the manufacturing sector and attract more young people may affect those in sales recruiter jobs.

John Hutton, the business secretary, claims the sector is central to the UK's economy and has the potential to emerge from the credit crunch in a stronger position than it was before.

He says the government will raise the profile of manufacturing work so it will attract able and innovative new employees, which may require an increase in the number of sales recruiter jobs.

"We must attract more talented young people - the lifeblood of future success - into the industry and ensure that this talent is nurtured and developed," he asserts.

Its new strategy will bring nearly £150 million into the sector and will draw on areas like the low-carbon economy and skills development to increase the attractiveness of the work.

There will also be a Manufacturing the Future campaign launched to promote careers in the sector to schoolchildren, which may impact on any sales recruiter specialising in the area.

Earlier this month, the Financial Times reports productivity in the field has increased by half in the last decade.
