Sales jobs in construction 'could be halved'

Recruitment forecasts across the construction sector, including in sales jobs, have been halved, a source says.

The Construction Skills Network's (CSN’s) predictions for the number of staff which need to enter the industry in the next four years have been downgraded by 184,000 people after poor performance in a number of its key areas, Contract Journal reports.

In an earlier statement this year, it suggested 88,000 would need to be recruited annually until 2013 but these have since been revised.

A spokesperson for the Civil Engineering Contractors Association tells the news provider areas connected to housebuilding such as infrastructure have seen a downturn.

This is expected to be a sector-wide cut in recruitment and will likely affect those looking for construction sales jobs.

CSN now suggests 42,000 should be recruited each year and has dismissed its February forecasts.

Earlier this week, Property Week reported figures from the Investment Property Databank found returns made had fallen by 1.1 per cent during August.
