Treasury 'must move fast to protect manufacturing jobs'
The government must act quickly to protect the manufacturing recruitment industry and jobs in the sector, it has been claimed.
According to union Unite, authorities must establish a strategic funding mechanism for the car industry within days rather than weeks.
Joint general secretary of the group Derek Simpson said the government policy of bailing out financial institutions will be ineffective if the money is not passed on to businesses.
"Only action by the Treasury in the next few days will safeguard the tens of thousands of jobs and the many communities across the country depending on car manufacturing for their livelihoods," he commented.
Mr Simpson went on to say that the Treasury does not have the luxury of pondering for weeks or months and intervention must come before Christmas.
Last week, the Trades Union Congress claimed UK authorities should increase their focus on training and developing skills in the current uncertain economic climate.
