Exporter confidence hits 15-year high

The confidence of exporters in the UK has hit its highest point since 1996, according to figures from the Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply (Cips).

People searching for manufacturing and industrial sales jobs could be buoyed by the Cips report, which showed that its managers' index of sentiment on export orders in April had risen to 60.71 from a low of 38.12 in November 2008.

"The good news is there are already signs this is starting to happen as employment levels are slowly rising on the back of strained capacity and backlogs of work reported for the first time in over a decade," said David Noble, the chief executive at Cips.

He added that there could be more good news for the manufacturing industry, as companies begin to increase their investment and start to build capacity again.

One British manufacturing firm which could soon be looking for more sales staff is Dyson, which recently announced it was recruiting after the success of its bladeless fans.
