A number of new sales jobs are being created in the technology sector, a new report notes.

On the contrary, some 160 jobs in the technology industry were created by four providers in Ireland in the first three weeks of July, the report points out.

Complete Telecoms is creating ten technology and sales jobs at its headquarters in Dublin, while Typetec and Siemens also creating new positions.

Mary Coughlan, tanaiste and minister for enterprise, trade and employment, told the news provider that hi-tech jobs are crucial to the economy.

"As we move towards a fully knowledge-based economy, it is vital we continue to expand our high-tech services industry," she said.

In related news, a study from market research firm GfK found that telesales activity is growing as more people choose to shop from home, the Retail Bulletin reported.
